This policy explains what information the FluentMiles iPhone app and the FluentMiles website handle, and why. FluentMiles is made by Apexium Marketing LLC ("we", "us"). The short version: the app is built to work without collecting anything about you, and the website collects only what it needs to answer you and to run the Creator Program.
The short version
- The app has no account, no analytics or advertising tools, and no tracking.
- Speech recognition and grading run on your iPhone. Your voice is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
- Your learning progress is stored on your iPhone and, when iCloud is on, in your private iCloud database, which only you can read.
- Location, Game Center leaderboards and notifications are optional, and you can turn them off at any time.
- Apple handles purchases. We never receive your payment details.
- The website has no analytics, ad trackers or third-party cookies.
- We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.
Information in the app
What we don't collect
The app doesn't ask you to create an account, and it contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software. It doesn't send us information about you or how you use it.
Your voice
When it's your turn to speak, the app uses the iPhone's microphone and Apple's on-device speech recognition to hear your answer and grade it. This happens entirely on your iPhone. Voice audio is never recorded, stored or sent to us or anyone else. The microphone listens only during a lesson, when it's your turn to speak, and during microphone checks you start. If you don't allow the microphone, lessons work in listen-and-repeat mode.
Your profile and progress
The optional first name and avatar you choose, your lesson progress, review history, drives and practice sessions, miles, towns, badges, song progress, favorites and settings are stored on your iPhone. When iCloud is on for FluentMiles, everything except your settings is also kept in your private iCloud database, so it syncs to your other iPhones. Only you can read your private iCloud database; Apple handles it under your iCloud settings and Apple's privacy policy. We can't see any of it. Settings › Export my data creates a file with a copy of this information, which you can share wherever you choose; we receive it only if you send it to us. Settings › Delete account erases it all from your iPhone and from your iCloud. Deleting doesn't cancel a subscription, and it doesn't remove scores or badges you've already posted to Game Center.
Like most iPhone apps, FluentMiles may be included in your iPhone or iCloud backups, which are handled by Apple under your backup settings.
Location (optional)
If you turn on Location, the app uses your iPhone's location only while a lesson is playing, never while it's paused or closed. It uses it to measure your miles of practice and to name the towns on your learning map. To find a town's name, the app uses Apple's geocoding service (Apple Maps), which may receive your location under Apple's privacy policy. The app saves only the town, rounded to about 1 km, never a road or an address, and stores it on your iPhone (and in your private iCloud when iCloud is on). The app doesn't send your location to us. Without Location, miles are estimated from listening time.
Game Center leaderboards (optional)
Leaderboards are off until you turn them on. Until then, nothing is sent to Game Center. Once they're on, the app posts these to Apple's Game Center under your Game Center name: your minutes of practice this week, your miles this week, your total miles, your longest Road Trip, how many phrases you've learned, and the badges you earn (as Game Center achievements). With your permission, the app also shows your Game Center friends on the leaderboards, lets you compare your scores with a friend's, and lets you invite and challenge friends through Game Center. To remind you where you stand among friends each week, the app keeps the last standing it read (your place and the friend just ahead or behind) on your iPhone only. Game Center is run by Apple under Apple's terms and privacy policy. You can turn leaderboards off in Settings.
Notifications (optional)
Reminders, such as a daily reminder, a Road Trip reminder, a weekly recap, a weekly friends reminder and a free-trial reminder, are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. No server sends them, and we don't receive anything about them.
Purchases
Subscriptions and offer codes are handled by Apple through the App Store. The app asks Apple whether you have an active subscription. We never receive your payment details. Apple gives us sales and subscription reports, such as how many people redeemed an offer code, without your name or payment details.
Voices and downloads
The app speaks using Apple's voices on your iPhone, and it may include voice recordings that are part of the app itself. When you download a language's listening model or a better voice, the download comes from Apple. The app doesn't contact any other voice or speech service.
Information on the website
Browsing
The website has no analytics, advertising trackers or third-party cookies. Like any website host, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Cookies
We use one strictly necessary cookie, only for creators and administrators, to keep you signed in to the creator center or the admin area. It isn't used for tracking or advertising. Visitors who don't sign in don't get it.
The contact form
When you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message, so we can reply to you.
The Creator Program
If you apply to or join the Creator Program, we collect:
- Your application details: name, email address, social media handles, audience size and country.
- The email address of your PayPal account, so we can send payouts.
- Videos you upload for review and screenshots you upload as proof of views.
- Your reported and verified view counts, your earnings, and your payout history.
- The email address you sign in with, and the sign-in emails we send to it.
- Tax forms, such as a W-9 or W-8BEN, if we need them before paying you.
How we use information
We use the information described above only to:
- Reply to your messages and give support.
- Review Creator Program applications, verify views, calculate earnings and send payouts.
- Promote FluentMiles with videos creators have submitted, as the Creator Terms allow.
- Keep the website secure and prevent fraud.
- Meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
Service providers
We use a few companies to run the website and the Creator Program. They process information for us under their own terms and privacy policies:
- Cloudflare: website hosting, database and file storage.
- Resend: sending email, such as sign-in emails and replies.
- PayPal: sending creator payouts.
- Apple: App Store purchases, offer codes, Game Center, and iCloud sync of your progress (your private iCloud database, which we can't read).
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a sale or reorganization of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
How long we keep information
- Creator records: kept while your creator account is active, and afterward for as long as we need them for tax and accounting obligations.
- Contact messages: kept for up to two years.
- App data: we don't have it. It stays on your iPhone, and in your private iCloud when iCloud is on, until you delete your account in the app.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing help@apexium.team. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we may keep some records where the law requires it, for example payout records for tax purposes. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, and you can contact your local data protection authority.
In the app, you control everything from Settings: turn Location, notifications and leaderboards on or off, export your data, or delete it.
Security
We protect the website with encrypted (HTTPS) connections and keep access to creator and contact information limited. No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us right away if you think something is wrong.
Children
FluentMiles is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. The Creator Program is only for people 18 and over. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
