How can we help?

Quick answers below. Still stuck? Send us a message and we'll get back to you.

Getting started

What do I need to use FluentMiles?

An iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Lessons play through your car's speakers over CarPlay or Bluetooth, through a headset, or through the iPhone speaker.

How do I start a lesson?

While you're parked, open the Drive tab and tap Start drive. Or ask Siri: "Start FluentMiles" plays your next Exit, and "Quick Review in FluentMiles" plays a review.

How do I pause or stop while driving?

Tap anywhere on the screen to pause or resume. Hold anywhere for one second to end the lesson. Your steering-wheel or headset play/pause button works too. Next track skips, and previous track repeats.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. Lessons, voices and answer checking work offline. You need a connection to download a language's listening model or new voices, to subscribe, and for Game Center.

Will it change my maps?

No. FluentMiles never changes your maps, directions or any other app's language. Spoken directions from your navigation app pause the lesson, then it continues.

Why isn't my language offered?

FluentMiles teaches nine languages today. Tell us which one you want with the form below, topic "Request a language", or in the app under Settings › Safety & help › Request a language. Hindi isn't available yet because Apple's on-device speech recognition can't transcribe it.

Lessons and voices

How long does an Exit take?

Played in full, most Exits take 12 to 18 minutes. With Lesson length set to Quick, most take 9 to 12: new phrases and the conversation stay, and some review rounds are trimmed. A Road Test takes 8 to 10 minutes either way. Change it in Settings › Lessons & audio › Lesson length, or on the Drive tab.

What if I stop in the middle of an Exit?

Any drive that ran for at least 20 seconds is saved, finished or not. A lesson left paused ends by itself after 10 minutes, or after an hour if a call paused it.

The voice sounds robotic. Can I get a better one?

Yes. FluentMiles uses the best Apple voice installed on your iPhone. In the Settings app, tap Accessibility, then Read & Speak, then Voices, and download an Enhanced or Premium voice for your language. The app's Natural voices guide (in Settings › Voices) walks you through it. You can also pick a voice yourself in Settings › Voices.

Can I slow it down?

Say "slower" during a lesson, or set Speaking speed in Settings › Lessons & audio.

What are miles?

Miles of practice count while a lesson plays. With Location on and Precise Location allowed, they're measured with GPS. Otherwise they're estimated from listening time at 30 mph. Paused time doesn't count.

What's a Road Trip?

Your streak: the number of days in a row with at least 5 minutes of practice.

Microphone and grading

How does it check my answers?

Speech recognition runs on your iPhone. It hears your answer and compares it with the phrase. You'll hear "Nice!" or "Close. Listen once more." FluentMiles never says "wrong".

It says answers aren't checked. Why?

That's listen-and-repeat mode. It happens when the microphone isn't allowed, when your language's listening download isn't ready yet, or when your iPhone can't recognize that language. You still practice every phrase out loud. To fix it, allow the microphone and download listening in Settings › Listening (Wi-Fi recommended).

It keeps missing what I say.

Try the other microphone in Settings › Lessons & audio › Microphone (iPhone or Car), give yourself more time with Answer time, and use Test microphone to check. Road noise matters, so try a little louder.

What can I say during a lesson?

"Repeat", "slower", "skip", "pause" or "I don't know". The first four also work in the language you're learning, and that's the surest way to say them. Settings › Safety shows the words for your language.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Your voice is processed on your iPhone and is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.

Subscriptions and billing

What's free?

Route 1 in all nine languages, The Hello Song and The Birthday Song, Quick Reviews of anything you've practiced, and the Phrasebook. FluentMiles Pro unlocks Routes 2 to 6 and every song.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

Open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose FluentMiles. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge. In the app, Settings › Manage subscription takes you there too.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all payments, so refunds go through Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

I paid but Pro isn't showing.

Open FluentMiles and tap Settings › Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you used to subscribe. The paywall has a Restore button too.

How does the free trial work?

The yearly plan comes with a 1-week free trial for new subscribers. If you allow notifications, the app reminds you two days before it ends. Unless you cancel, the subscription renews at the yearly price after that.

I have a code. Where do I enter it?

In FluentMiles, tap Settings › Redeem a code, or "Have a code? Redeem it" on the paywall. Codes are Apple offer codes.

Can my family use my subscription?

Yes. Both plans include Family Sharing. A family-shared subscription is managed by the family organizer.

Privacy

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up, email or password. Your profile and progress stay on your iPhone.

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. Settings › Export my data shares a file with all your progress and settings. You choose where it goes.

How do I delete my data?

Settings › Delete account erases everything FluentMiles stored on your iPhone. It doesn't cancel a subscription, so cancel that in the Settings app first if you want to. Game Center scores stay with Apple.

What does Location do?

It's optional. While a lesson plays, it measures your miles of practice and names the towns on your learning map. Towns are saved on your iPhone, never a road or an address. The app doesn't send your location to us. Read the privacy policy for details.
